What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to the 2024 Gokhale Method Franchise Disclosure Document, Gokhale Method retains exclusive rights to communicate with, market to, and maintain relationships with students taught by a franchisee. The franchisee acknowledges these rights and agrees not to contest them or interfere with Gokhale Method's relationships with these students. This means that while a franchisee can recruit and teach students, Gokhale Method controls the broader communication and marketing strategies directed at those students.
This reservation of rights has significant implications for a prospective franchisee. While franchisees are responsible for the direct teaching and local marketing to acquire students, Gokhale Method maintains control over the overall student relationship. Franchisees cannot assume they will be able to build an independent brand or business based on the students they teach, as Gokhale Method retains the right to communicate with and market to those students independently.
This arrangement is not uncommon in franchising, where franchisors often retain control over customer data and broader marketing strategies to ensure brand consistency and leverage network-wide marketing efforts. However, it's crucial for a prospective Gokhale Method franchisee to understand the extent to which their ability to build lasting relationships with students is limited by Gokhale Method's retained rights. Franchisees should inquire about how Gokhale Method uses student data and what opportunities exist for franchisees to participate in broader marketing initiatives.
