What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Gokhale Method's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchisor has the right to change the System from time to time at its sole discretion. The franchisee must comply with these changes and cooperate with the franchisor as prescribed in the Teacher's Manual or Policy Statements. The franchisee cannot implement any changes, amendments, or improvements to the System without the franchisor's express prior written consent. If a franchisee proposes a change, amendment, or improvement, they must notify Gokhale Method in writing and provide any requested information. The franchisor has the right to incorporate any proposed change into the System and will then own all rights to it without compensating the franchisee.

This clause gives Gokhale Method significant control over the evolution of its teaching methods and business operations. It ensures uniformity across all franchises and allows the franchisor to adapt to new developments or market trends. However, it also means that franchisees have limited autonomy to innovate or customize the System to suit their local market or teaching style. Franchisees bear the risk of investing time and resources into a business model that could be altered by the franchisor's decisions.

For a prospective Gokhale Method franchisee, this underscores the importance of carefully reviewing the Teacher's Manual and Policy Statements to understand the scope of potential changes. It would be prudent to discuss with existing franchisees how the franchisor has historically managed changes to the System and whether they have been supportive of franchisee input. Understanding the franchisor's approach to innovation and adaptation is crucial for assessing the long-term viability and satisfaction of the franchise investment.
