What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to the 2024 Gokhale Method Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees have specific obligations regarding advertising and promotion of their business. The Gokhale Method requires franchisees to advertise and promote their franchised business and the Gokhale Method system in the manner and through the means outlined in the Franchise Agreement, the Teacher's Manual, and Policy Statements. These advertising and promotional activities are to be conducted at the franchisee's expense. Franchisees must also ensure that all promotional materials, including graphics and signs, display the Gokhale Method trademarks (the Marks) in the prescribed form, color, location, and manner.
Specifically, franchisees are required to conduct free workshops to promote the Gokhale Method. Over the course of a year, the number of people presented to in these free workshops should be double the number of people actually taught in classes. Franchisees may also promote their classes using brochures (supplied by Gokhale Method for a fee) and email blasts (administered by Gokhale Method for a fee). Local print, radio, or television advertising is permitted but will be at the franchisee's expense. Gokhale Method will provide advertising templates that franchisees can customize with their contact information, but franchisees are not allowed to use their own advertising materials. Internet advertising is restricted to the Gokhale Method website and email blasts administered by the franchisor.
These stipulations mean that a Gokhale Method franchisee has limited autonomy in their marketing efforts, with the franchisor maintaining control over branding and advertising content. The requirement to conduct free workshops could be a significant time and financial commitment for the franchisee. The franchisee bears the cost of all local marketing, advertising, and promotion expenditures and must provide evidence of these expenditures upon request. The franchisor also retains the right to change the Gokhale Method system, and the franchisee is obligated to comply with these changes and incorporate them into their business practices. This includes advertising and promotional strategies.
Overall, the Gokhale Method franchisees must adhere to the franchisor's guidelines and standards for all advertising and promotional activities. This ensures brand consistency and quality but also limits the franchisee's creative control and requires them to invest time and money in approved marketing efforts. Prospective franchisees should carefully review the Teacher's Manual and Policy Statements to fully understand the scope of these obligations and the associated costs.
