What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Gokhale Method's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are generally not required to purchase equipment or supplies from approved suppliers, with some exceptions. Franchisees must purchase specific proprietary items like the Gokhale® Roller, Gokhale Pain-Free™ Chair, Stretchsit® Cushions, Gokhale® Wedges, Gokhale® Head Cushions, copies of "8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back", and possibly shirts or uniforms directly from Gokhale Method. These items are proprietary and cannot be sourced elsewhere.
However, for other required equipment and supplies, franchisees have the flexibility to purchase from any source, provided the items meet Gokhale Method's specifications. This includes items like an Apple MacBook (or equivalent PC), iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, a digital projector, a projector screen, exercise strap, yoga mat, pillows, and folding chairs. While Gokhale Method specifies certain technical requirements (e.g., MacOS 12 Monterey or later for the MacBook), franchisees are not restricted to purchasing these items from a pre-approved list of vendors.
For scheduling group Gokhale® Foundations courses, franchisees must have chairs, Stretchsit® Cushions, Gokhale® Wedges, Gokhale® Head Cushions, pillows, and yoga mats available for students. Gokhale Method is the only approved supplier for Stretchsit® Cushions, Gokhale® Wedges, and Gokhale® Head Cushions, but franchisees may purchase chairs, pillows, and yoga mats from any supplier approved by Gokhale Method. Gokhale Method retains the right to require franchisees to purchase additional equipment or supplies from them in the future.
Prospective franchisees should confirm whether there is an approved list of vendors for chairs, pillows, and yoga mats and understand the process for getting a vendor approved if they wish to use a different supplier. Franchisees should also clarify what recourse they have if they believe a non-approved vendor meets the specifications. Finally, franchisees should stay informed about any potential future changes to the approved supplier policy, as Gokhale Method reserves the right to modify these requirements.
