Can Focalpoint Coaching require franchisees to attend the initial training program in person?

- We currently conduct the initial training program online, but we may require you to attend the initial training program in-person in San Diego, California, or another location we designate, in our sole discretion.
Training will occur after you sign the Franchise Agreement and while you are developing the Franchised Business. You (or your managing owner) or your Business Manager must complete initial training to our satisfaction before you may open and begin operating your Franchised Business. We plan to be flexible in scheduling training to accommodate our personnel, you, and your personnel. As of the date of this Disclosure Document, we provide the following initial training:
You must pay us an initial training fee in the amount of $16,950 when you sign the Franchise Agreement. (See Item 5) Additional people beyond the first attendee may attend initial training if you pay our then current training charge for each additional person. (See Item 6) You must pay us our then current training fee (plus any applicable taxes) within 5 days of hiring or retaining an Associate for the Associate training program. (See Item 6) You must pay for all travel and living expenses that you (or your managing owner), your Associates and your employees incur and for your employees' wages and workers' compensation insurance in traveling to and from our training facility or the location we designate. If initial training is in person, we will pay all supplied food and reasonable lodging expenses of your attendees only while participating in the initial training program.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Focalpoint Coaching's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial training program can be conducted either online or in person. While the training is currently online, Focalpoint Coaching retains the right to require franchisees to attend the initial training in person. This in-person training may take place in San Diego, California, or at another location designated by Focalpoint Coaching.
If the initial training is in person, Focalpoint Coaching will cover the cost of supplied food and reasonable lodging expenses for the franchisee and their attendees while they are participating in the training program. However, the franchisee is responsible for all other related travel and living expenses, as well as wages and worker's compensation insurance for their employees while traveling to and from the training facility or designated location. The initial training fee is $16,950, which is paid when the Franchise Agreement is signed.
The initial training program consists of approximately 44 hours of training, although the specific number of hours may vary depending on Focalpoint Coaching's assessment of the franchisee's experience and needs. The training covers the operation of a Focalpoint Coaching Franchised Business and utilizes the Operations Manual and various instructional materials. The training must be completed to Focalpoint Coaching's satisfaction before the franchisee can open and begin operating their Franchised Business. The training is scheduled flexibly to accommodate the schedules of Focalpoint Coaching personnel, the franchisee, and their personnel.
