What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Fly Fitness's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, Fly Fitness provides a trainer for on-site training, supervision, and assistance with daily operations, local marketing, and grand opening activities at the opening of your franchised business. This on-site training is provided for up to five days at no additional cost to the franchisee.

Fly Fitness may also conduct mandatory or optional additional training programs, including an annual conference or national business meeting. If Fly Fitness requires attendance, franchisees must attend mandatory training programs for up to three days each year, and an annual conference or national business meeting for up to three days each year, at a location Fly Fitness designates. Failure to attend mandatory training, including an annual conference or business meeting, constitutes a default under the Franchise Agreement.

If a franchisee fails to attend any mandatory training program, they are required to obtain the training at a location Fly Fitness designates, at their sole cost. This includes tuition at the then-current rate, plus all of the franchisee's travel costs and Fly Fitness's trainer's travel costs. Fly Fitness also reserves the right to charge a reasonable fee to provide initial training to any manager a franchisee appoints, with Fly Fitness's approval, after the initial opening of the franchised business. The current fee to provide initial training to any replacement manager is $400 per trainer per day, and the franchisee must also pay the manager's travel and personal expenses.

This structure is fairly typical in the franchise industry, where franchisors provide initial training and support but require franchisees to bear the costs of ongoing training and remediation. Franchisees should budget for these potential expenses and ensure they understand the requirements for mandatory training to avoid penalties or defaults under the Franchise Agreement.
