What This Means (2024 FDD)

According to Fly Fitness's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, while they provide standards for employee qualifications and training, they do not otherwise assist with employee hiring and training. Fly Fitness does provide initial training to the franchisee or the owners and the general manager.

Fly Fitness offers an initial management training program that the franchisee or owners and the general manager must complete. This training occurs approximately every four weeks at the Fly Fitness headquarters or another location of their choosing. The cost of instructors and training materials for up to three people is included in the initial franchise fee. However, the franchisee must cover travel and personal expenses like transportation, meals, and lodging for themselves and their personnel. There is a fee of $400 per person for initial training for any additional trainees. Fly Fitness also reserves the right to charge a reasonable fee to provide initial training to any manager appointed after the franchise opens; the current fee is $400 per trainer per day, plus travel and personal expenses for the manager.

At the franchise opening, Fly Fitness will provide a trainer for on-site training, supervision, assistance with daily operations, local marketing, and the grand opening, for up to five days at no additional cost. Fly Fitness may also conduct mandatory or optional additional training programs, including an annual conference or national business meeting. If attendance is mandatory, the franchisee must attend for up to three days each year, plus an annual conference or national business meeting for up to three days each year, at a location Fly Fitness designates. The franchisee is responsible for transportation, lodging, meals, and other expenses to attend any mandatory training program. Failure to attend mandatory training can result in a default under the Franchise Agreement, requiring the franchisee to obtain the training at a designated location at their sole cost, including tuition and travel expenses for both the franchisee and the trainer.

The Fly Fitness Operations Manual includes a section on Human Resources, which provides guidance on recruiting, hiring, and training employees. This section covers topics such as EEOC guidelines, wage and labor laws, immigration reform, the I-9 form requirement, the ideal employee profile, the interview process, background checks, job descriptions, hiring on a trial period, orientation, new employee paperwork, initial and ongoing training, and personnel policies. This suggests that while Fly Fitness does not directly assist with hiring and training beyond the initial management program, they provide resources and standards to guide franchisees in managing their staff.
