Under what circumstances might Fat Shack waive the on-site training?

Fat_Shack Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

If you are opening your first FAT SHACK Restaurant, we provide up to 30 days of on-site training at your FAT SHACK Restaurant to you and your staff, at a mutually agreed time at or around opening, to assist you in the opening of your FAT SHACK Restaurant. We may waive on-site training if you have previously operated a FAT SHACK Restaurant. If we must travel more than 100 miles and incur room and board expenses for this training, we can charge you an on-site assistance fee of $195 per day.

Our initial training program is not provided by us if you are exercising your successor franchise rights for a FAT SHACK Restaurant that is already operating.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Fat Shack's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, on-site training, which typically lasts for 30 days, may be waived under specific circumstances. If a franchisee has previously operated a Fat Shack Restaurant, the franchisor may waive the on-site training requirement. Additionally, if a franchisee is exercising successor franchise rights for a Fat Shack Restaurant that is already in operation, the initial training program will not be provided.

For new franchisees opening their first Fat Shack location, the franchisor provides up to 30 days of on-site training to the franchisee and their staff. This training is scheduled at a mutually agreed time around the restaurant's opening to assist in the initial setup and operation. However, this on-site assistance is not provided if the franchisee is taking over an already operating Fat Shack Restaurant under successor franchise rights.

It's important to note that while the initial training program may be waived, Fat Shack may still require the franchisee or their General Manager and other managers to attend national conventions, local, or regional seminars or meetings. These additional training sessions are at the franchisee's expense and may occur as often as annually for national conventions and up to two times per year for local or regional seminars. If the franchisor has to travel more than 100 miles to provide on-site training, Fat Shack can charge the franchisee an on-site assistance fee of $195 per day to cover travel, room, and board expenses.
