Is Fat Shack required to train a replacement General Manager?

Fat_Shack Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

At our discretion, train your replacement General Manager during the term of the Franchise Agreement. We reserve the right to charge a tuition or fee for training, payable in advance, according to our then current published prices. You must pay all travel and living expenses for your personnel during the training program. The availability of the training programs depends on the availability of training staff, space considerations and prior commitments to new FAT SHACK franchisees (Section 10.1.d, Franchise Agreement).

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Fat Shack's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Fat Shack is not required to train a replacement General Manager. However, Fat Shack may choose to train a replacement General Manager at their discretion. If Fat Shack does provide this training, they reserve the right to charge a tuition or fee, which must be paid in advance, according to their then-current published prices.

The franchisee is responsible for covering all travel and living expenses for their personnel during the training program. The availability of the training programs is subject to the availability of training staff, space considerations, and prior commitments to new Fat Shack franchisees. This means that even if a franchisee requests training for a replacement General Manager and is willing to pay the associated costs, Fat Shack may not be able to provide the training due to these limitations.

Many franchise agreements include initial training for key personnel, but ongoing or replacement training is often discretionary, as it is with Fat Shack. This allows the franchisor flexibility in managing resources and adapting to changing business needs. Prospective franchisees should inquire about the typical costs and frequency of such training to better understand potential ongoing expenses and support available from Fat Shack.
