Does Fat Shack charge a tuition or fee for training a replacement General Manager?

At our discretion, train your replacement General Manager during the term of the Franchise Agreement. We reserve the right to charge a tuition or fee for training, payable in advance, according to our then current published prices. You must pay all travel and living expenses for your personnel during the training program. The availability of the training programs depends on the availability of training staff, space considerations and prior commitments to new FAT SHACK franchisees (Section 10.1.d, Franchise Agreement).

- Hold periodic conferences to discuss restaurant operations, bookkeeping, new product developments, new service suggestions, accounting, inventory control, performance standards, advertising programs, merchandising procedures and other topics deemed relevant by us. We may require you to attend these conferences. (Section 7.2 of Franchise Agreement.)

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Fat Shack's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Fat Shack may train a replacement General Manager during the franchise term, at their discretion. Fat Shack reserves the right to charge a tuition or fee for this training, with the amount payable in advance based on their then-current published prices.
The franchisee is responsible for covering all travel and living expenses for their personnel during the training program. The availability of these training programs is subject to the availability of training staff, space considerations, and prior commitments to new Fat Shack franchisees.
Fat Shack may also require the franchisee or their General Manager to attend additional meetings, seminars, or conferences to discuss topics such as advertising programs, new operations methods, training, management, sales, or sales promotion. Fat Shack may charge a tuition for attending these additional training programs, but it will not exceed $1,000 per Additional Meeting. Attendance at these additional training programs is optional unless Fat Shack provides 30 days' prior written notice that attendance is mandatory. Fat Shack will not require attendance at training programs or seminars more than twice a year.
