What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Fat Shack's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the General Manager is also required to complete the initial training program. If the franchisee is a corporation, partnership, or limited liability company, the Managing Owner, along with the General Manager, must attend and successfully complete the initial training program. The Managing Owner is defined as the managing shareholder, partner, or member of the franchisee entity.
Fat Shack offers this initial training program at one of its designated training facilities. The FDD states that up to three individuals, including the Managing Owner and General Manager, can participate in the initial training program without incurring a tuition or fee. However, the franchisee is responsible for covering all traveling and living expenses associated with attending the training program, as well as any wages or salaries for the individuals being trained.
Prior to commencing operations, the Managing Owner and the General Manager must successfully complete the initial training program. Additionally, Fat Shack reserves the right to mandate that the franchisee, or the General Manager, attend and pass a designated food safety and sanitation course, which may be administered by Fat Shack or a third party. The franchisee is responsible for the tuition and all travel and living expenses related to attending the food safety course.
Throughout the term of the agreement, Fat Shack retains the right to conduct additional training programs or seminars. While attendance is typically optional, Fat Shack can require the franchisee (or its Managing Owner) or its General Manager to attend with at least 30 days' prior written notice. Mandatory training programs and seminars are limited to no more than twice a year and cannot exceed five days in length. Fat Shack may charge a tuition or fee for these additional programs, along with the franchisee covering all associated transportation and living expenses.
