What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Epcon Communities Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must obtain prior written approval from Epcon Communities for several actions related to the brand and its systems. Specifically, before creating any website related to the Epcon Communities franchised business, franchisees must get written approval for the domain name, website content (including framing), and the use of any of Epcon Communities' marks on the site. Epcon Communities also retains ongoing approval rights regarding these elements.
This requirement ensures that franchisees adhere to brand standards and protect Epcon Communities' trademarks and overall image. It allows Epcon Communities to maintain control over how its brand is represented online and to ensure consistency across all franchisee websites. This is a fairly standard practice in franchising, as franchisors typically want to ensure brand uniformity and protect their intellectual property.
Furthermore, Epcon Communities retains the right to pre-approve any links between a franchisee's web pages and any other website. If requested in writing by Epcon Communities, a franchisee must remove any links between their web pages and other websites within five days. This provision gives Epcon Communities significant control over a franchisee's online presence and the information they disseminate related to the brand. This level of oversight is designed to safeguard the brand's reputation and prevent any misuse of its online presence.
In summary, any Epcon Communities franchisee needs to be aware that they must seek and obtain written approval from Epcon Communities before launching any website related to their franchise. This includes approval of the domain name, website content, and any use of Epcon Communities' trademarks. Additionally, Epcon Communities has the right to pre-approve website links and demand the removal of links within five days of a written request.
