What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Engineering For Kids' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are granted a limited license to use data collected in connection with their franchise. Specifically, an Engineering For Kids franchisee can only use the data to operate their franchised business and to market Engineering For Kids programs and services. The franchisor owns all data pertaining to the franchise, including customer information, regardless of whether it is uploaded to or downloaded from Engineering For Kids' system.
Engineering For Kids maintains the right to use the data in any manner they deem appropriate without compensating the franchisee. Upon termination, expiration, or transfer of the franchise agreement, the franchisee must provide all data to Engineering For Kids in a specified format. The franchisee acknowledges that they do not have ownership rights to the data, except for the right to use it under the terms of the franchise agreement.
This policy ensures that Engineering For Kids retains control over valuable customer and business data, which is common in franchising. It allows Engineering For Kids to analyze system-wide trends, refine marketing strategies, and maintain consistency across all franchise locations. For a prospective franchisee, this means understanding that while they can use the data to grow their local business, the data ultimately belongs to Engineering For Kids and must be surrendered if the franchise agreement ends.
