What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Engineering For Kids Franchise Disclosure Document, each franchised business is referred to as an "Engineering For Kids Business," a "Business," or a "Franchised Business." This terminology is used throughout the document for clarity and consistency when referencing individual franchise units within the Engineering For Kids system.
For a prospective franchisee, understanding this terminology is important as it appears in various sections of the FDD and the Franchise Agreement. Knowing that these terms all refer to the same thing—an individual Engineering For Kids franchise—helps in interpreting the obligations, rights, and standards associated with operating the business. This consistent naming convention ensures that franchisees can easily identify and understand the references to their own business within the legal and operational framework provided by Engineering For Kids.
Engineering For Kids also uses the terms "Learning Center Based Business" for their business format. These sites must meet the franchisor's standards and specifications and are called "Third Party Sites". These sites include facilities such as community centers, parks and recreation centers, afterschool care centers and schools. In addition to operating at Third Party Sites, the operator establishes an instruction facility and office at a location that will serve as the operator's permanent base of operations, will be devoted entirely to the operation of an Engineering For Kids Business, and will bear exterior "Engineering For Kids" signage (a "EFK Center Location"). The term "Authorized Location" will refer to Third Party Sites and EFK Center Locations.
Engineering For Kids also identifies the businesses operating under the System by means of the "Engineering For Kids" name and certain other trademarks, service marks, trade names, signs, logos, and other indicia of origin (collectively, the "Proprietary Marks").
