What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Engel & Volkers' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a proposed assignee must attend and successfully complete Engel & Volkers' required training programs before the assignment. The assignee bears the expense for these training programs, encompassing Engel & Volkers' then-current training fee and the costs of transportation, lodging, food, and other living expenses for the trainees. Each individual undergoing such training must first execute a Confidentiality/Non-Competition Agreement.
This means that if you plan to assign your Engel & Volkers franchise to a new owner, that new owner (and potentially their staff) will need to undergo training. You, as the franchisee, will not be responsible for these training costs. However, the assignee will need to budget for the training fee itself, plus all travel and living expenses associated with attending the training. The FDD does not specify the amount of the training fee.
This is a fairly standard practice in franchising. Franchisors want to ensure that anyone taking over a franchise is properly trained in the Engel & Volkers system. The requirement for a Confidentiality/Non-Competition Agreement is also typical, protecting Engel & Volkers' proprietary information and business practices. As a prospective franchisee, it would be prudent to inquire about the typical costs associated with assignee training to better understand the financial implications of a future transfer.
