What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Ella Cafe's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the requirement to purchase from approved or designated suppliers impacts site selection and approval because franchisees must purchase specific furniture, fixtures, equipment, computer systems, and signage from Ella Cafe or its approved third-party suppliers. Item 7 indicates that franchisees are required to purchase certain items like wall panels, tables, chairs, espresso machines, computer hardware, software, interior and exterior signs, and displays from Ella Cafe or their designated suppliers. The costs for these items can vary based on material quality and the size of the franchised business, and do not include transportation or setup costs.
Item 11 states that Ella Cafe will review and approve or disapprove potential locations submitted by the franchisee. The factors Ella Cafe considers include general location, neighborhood, competition, trade area demographics, traffic patterns, parking, size, physical characteristics of existing buildings, and lease terms. Since franchisees must purchase specific items from Ella Cafe's approved suppliers, the physical characteristics of existing buildings become important to ensure the chosen site can accommodate the required furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
Furthermore, franchisees are responsible for local compliance regarding signage, which must adhere to Ella Cafe's design and construction specifications. This means that during site selection, franchisees must consider local ordinances and building codes to ensure the chosen location can accommodate the designated signage. The obligation to purchase from approved vendors directly influences the site selection process, as the site must be suitable for the mandatory fixtures, equipment, and signage dictated by Ella Cafe's standards.
