If an Ella Cafe franchisee participates in a purchasing arrangement, what kind of benefits might they receive directly from the supplier?
Ella_Cafe Franchise · 2024 FDDAnswer from 2024 FDD Document
We may negotiate purchase arrangements with primary suppliers for the benefit of franchisees. If we negotiate a purchase agreement for the region where your Coffee House is located, you must participate in the purchasing program. We do not provide material benefits to you (for example, renewal or granting additional franchises) based on your purchase of particular products or services or use of particular suppliers. You may receive some benefits from participating in the purchasing arrangement from the supplier directly, in the form of rebates or otherwise.
Currently, no purchasing or distribution cooperatives exist in the franchise system.

What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Ella Cafe's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, if Ella Cafe negotiates a purchase agreement for the region where a franchisee's Coffee House is located, the franchisee must participate in the purchasing program. While Ella Cafe does not provide material benefits to franchisees based on their participation in these programs, franchisees may receive benefits directly from the supplier. These benefits can be in the form of rebates or other incentives.
This arrangement means that while Ella Cafe mandates participation in negotiated purchasing programs, the direct financial advantages or other benefits are passed from the supplier to the franchisee. This could potentially lower the cost of goods or provide other financial incentives that improve the franchisee's profitability.
It is important to note that currently, no purchasing or distribution cooperatives exist within the Ella Cafe franchise system. Therefore, franchisees should inquire about the specifics of any negotiated purchasing arrangements in their region, including which suppliers are involved and what types of rebates or incentives are typically offered. Understanding these details will help franchisees assess the potential financial benefits of participating in the purchasing program.
