What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Ella Cafe's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to conduct all financial transactions in United States dollars. Specifically, franchisees must submit all fees and payments to Ella Cafe in U.S. dollars. Furthermore, they are only permitted to accept payments from customers in U.S. dollars for any transactions related to the franchised business.
This policy strictly prohibits Ella Cafe franchisees from accepting payments in any other currency, including electronic forms of currency. The ban extends to cryptocurrencies and tokens such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and other digital currencies or tokens. This restriction ensures that all financial operations are standardized and easily auditable, reducing the risk of complications associated with fluctuating exchange rates or the volatility of digital currencies.
In addition to the currency restriction, Ella Cafe franchisees are obligated to accept all forms and methods of payment that Ella Cafe mandates. These include debit cards, credit cards, stored value cards, and other non-cash systems like Apple Pay and Google Wallet. To facilitate these payments, franchisees must install all necessary hardware and software. This requirement ensures that customers have a variety of convenient payment options, which can enhance customer satisfaction and potentially increase sales.
The FDD emphasizes the importance of protecting customer privacy and credit card information to maintain the goodwill associated with the Ella Cafe brand. Franchisees are solely responsible for educating themselves on relevant regulations and standards, as well as achieving and maintaining applicable compliance certifications. They are also required to defend, indemnify, and hold Ella Cafe harmless from any claims arising from their violation of these payment and data security provisions.
