What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Ella Cafe's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchisee is responsible for the costs associated with updating signage. Specifically, Ella Cafe retains the right to mandate franchisees to update their signage at any given time, and the franchisee must bear the full expense of these updates.
This requirement extends to all signs displayed on the interior and exterior of the Ella Cafe business premises. The franchisee is obligated to ensure these signs conform to the standards set by Ella Cafe regarding form, color, number, location, and size, and must display the designated Marks. This includes obtaining all necessary permits and licenses for the signs and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and ordinances.
Furthermore, the franchisee cannot display any sign or advertisement that Ella Cafe objects to. This gives Ella Cafe significant control over the branding and appearance of each franchise location, while placing the financial burden of maintaining that image squarely on the franchisee. This is a fairly standard practice in franchising, as maintaining brand consistency is seen as crucial to the overall success of the franchise system, but it can create unexpected costs for franchisees when updates are required.
