You must also promise in writing that, among other things, during the term of the Franchise Agreement you will not participate in any business that in any way competes with a Dryer Vent Squad Business, and that for 24 months after the expiration of termination of the Franchise Agreement (with said period being tolled during any periods of non-compliance), you will not participate in any competitive business located within and/or servicing customers located within your Operating Territory and a 25 mile radius surrounding your Operating Territory. What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Dryer Vent Squad's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are restricted from engaging in any competitive business within the operating territory of another Dryer Vent Squad franchise. This restriction applies both during the term of the Franchise Agreement and for a period of 24 months after the agreement's expiration or termination. This 24-month period is tolled during any periods of non-compliance. This non-compete extends not only to the franchisee's own operating territory and a 25-mile radius around it, but also to the operating territory of any other Dryer Vent Squad Business.
This obligation is reinforced by the requirement that each Owner (including members, shareholders, and/or partners of a partnership or corporate entity) must personally guarantee all obligations to Dryer Vent Squad under the Franchise Agreement. This guarantee underscores the commitment to abide by the non-compete clause and other terms of the agreement. Managers are also required to sign a confidentiality agreement, further protecting Dryer Vent Squad's interests.
These restrictions are typical in franchising to protect the brand and prevent franchisees from using the franchisor's proprietary information and systems to compete against the franchise network. For a prospective Dryer Vent Squad franchisee, this means they cannot operate or be involved in any competing business that offers similar services within any existing Dryer Vent Squad territory, even after their franchise agreement ends. This could limit their future business opportunities within the dryer vent cleaning industry.
