What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to the 2024 Dryer Vent Squad Franchise Disclosure Document, the definition of "Advertising Contributions" does include Advertising Cooperative contributions. Specifically, Advertising Contributions encompass all financial obligations a franchisee has to Dryer Vent Squad or its affiliates for advertising purposes, including fees for the Brand Development Fund and contributions to the Advertising Cooperative.
Dryer Vent Squad franchisees may be required to participate in a local or regional advertising cooperative if their business is located within a designated area. The advertising cooperative is authorized and managed by Dryer Vent Squad. Franchisees are obligated to contribute to the advertising cooperative as determined by the cooperative's governing documents, but these contributions count toward the franchisee's minimum local marketing obligations outlined in the franchise agreement.
Franchisees should note that Dryer Vent Squad retains control over the advertising cooperative's marketing materials and plans, requiring prior written approval. Additionally, Dryer Vent Squad businesses owned by the franchisor or its affiliates within the advertising cooperative's area are not required to contribute to the cooperative. This could potentially create an uneven playing field where franchisees are funding advertising that also benefits the franchisor's own locations.
