What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Dog Haus's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the employees of a franchised Dog Haus restaurant are solely the responsibility of the franchisee. The FDD emphasizes that all individuals hired or employed at the Dog Haus restaurant are considered employees of the franchisee, and not of Dog Haus itself. This distinction is critical for legal and financial reasons.
The franchisee is responsible for all aspects of employment, including hiring, firing, training, establishing remuneration, compliance with wage and hour requirements, personnel policies, benefits, recordkeeping, supervision, and discipline of employees. The franchisee is also responsible for filing their own tax, regulatory, and payroll reports, as well as providing employee benefits and workers' compensation insurance. Dog Haus maintains no power to hire or fire the franchisee's employees.
While Dog Haus may offer guidance or training for supervisorial or managerial personnel, this does not grant them any direct or indirect control over the franchisee's personnel. The FDD advises franchisees to consult with local legal counsel experienced in employment law to establish and implement their own employment policies. This ensures compliance with local regulations and protects the franchisee from potential legal issues related to employment practices.
