What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Crowne Plaza's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Holiday seeks to maintain high standards of quality, cleanliness, appearance, and service at all hotels operating under the Brand System. This is done to promote, protect, and enhance the public image and reputation of the Crowne Plaza name, and to increase the demand for the services offered by the Brand System. Holiday's judgment in these matters is controlling, granting them wide latitude in making decisions related to these standards. This means that Crowne Plaza franchisees must adhere to Holiday's directives regarding the quality and presentation of their hotels.
To ensure these standards are met, Holiday provides written specifications for products and materials in the form of a Property Improvement Plan (PIP). This plan details the renovations and alterations required to meet the Standards and Holiday's product quality requirements. It also includes specific dates for submitting plans and drawings, as well as construction and completion dates. If a franchisee hires unqualified individuals for design work, Holiday may reject the submitted work and assess fees up to $5,000 for Plan default. Furthermore, franchisees may be required to remove any non-approved product installed in the hotel that has not been explicitly approved in writing by IHG Plan Review before installation.
Before opening, Holiday inspects and approves the hotel to confirm that all requirements of the license have been met. If the hotel fails its opening inspection, or if the opening date needs to be rescheduled, the franchisee may be charged a fee of up to $5,000 for each extension and/or additional visit. Holiday's approval of any extension request must be in writing, and the franchisee must cover any expenses Holiday incurs in processing the extension request. These measures ensure that all Crowne Plaza hotels meet the brand's standards before commencing operations, maintaining consistency and quality across the franchise system.
