What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Crowne Plaza's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Crowne Plaza hotels are required to use the Opera PMS software. The PMS provider, not Crowne Plaza itself, is responsible for billing and collecting fees for the required PMS software support, as well as providing the actual support. This includes ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and new versions of the software. Franchisees are also responsible for obtaining ongoing equipment maintenance for the PMS hardware, which can be arranged through either SCH or an approved vendor.

This arrangement means that Crowne Plaza franchisees will have a direct relationship with the PMS provider for technical support and software maintenance. The FDD also mentions that the PMS Provider will provide a third-party license agreement for the use of the PMS software after the franchisee completes the Oracle New Account Setup Form. This agreement includes ongoing maintenance and support for the PMS software, and the PMS Provider will bill the franchisee annually for the support fee. The PMS Provider may not increase the maintenance and support fee more than once during any calendar year.

In addition to the PMS software support, franchisees must also pay support fees for other property-level systems that interface with the Opera PMS system, such as telecommunications, electronic door locking, keycard systems, and specialized sales software. The costs for these services can vary based on the hotel's technology needs and the number of rooms. Franchisees should budget accordingly for these ongoing technology support expenses, as they are essential for maintaining the operational efficiency and guest experience at a Crowne Plaza hotel.
