What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Crowne Plaza FDD, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a critical requirement for all hotels. This involves adhering to Title III of the ADA, including the 1991 and/or 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, along with other applicable accessibility requirements.
For newly constructed Crowne Plaza hotels, the process involves two certifications. First, a pre-construction certification of the final building plans and site must be submitted before construction begins. This certification must be completed by an architect who has professional experience applying the requirements of the ADA and the ADA Standards. Second, a post-construction certification is required after an inspection of the completed construction. This post-construction certification must be signed by the Licensee.
For existing hotels undergoing renovations for relicensing, conversions, brand changes, or changes of ownership, only a post-renovation certification is required. This certification is submitted after an inspection of the completed renovations and must be signed by the Licensee. Similarly, for voluntary renovations, a post-renovation certification is needed, also signed by the Licensee after the inspection. Additionally, before opening a newly constructed hotel, the Licensee must submit to IHG a post–construction disability compliance certification signed by the Licensee and an architect with professional experience applying the requirements of the ADA and the ADA Standards, in the form of Attachment "C" – ADA Certificate. This certification confirms the architect's qualifications and verifies that the hotel and building site comply with Title III of the ADA and other applicable accessibility laws.
