What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to the 2025 Crowne Plaza Franchise Disclosure Document, the General Manager and Hotel Experience Champion must complete the Leading the Brand Training for New Hotels certification before the hotel opens. The cost of this training is included in the annual subscription fee for IHG University. However, the franchisee may need to purchase subsequent training materials to continue training new employees.

IHG University is designed to promote a positive culture of learning. Each Crowne Plaza hotel must participate in IHG University, with an annual subscription fee of $5,500. The IHG Learning Program categorizes learning into "core", "value-add", and "specialist" tiers. Core learning, which includes critical onboarding and brand standard compliance, is covered by the subscription. Value-add and specialist learning are available at an additional cost, at the discretion of the hotel.

In addition to the Leading the Brand Training, the General Manager, Front Office Manager, Director of Sales, Executive Housekeeper, F&B colleagues, and Hotel Experience Champion (or equivalent roles) must each complete initial certification training. All required core certification training is included in the annual IHG University subscription. For in-person classes, the franchisee is responsible for travel expenses and any costs associated with optional or supplemental courses.
