When must a Crowne Plaza franchisee submit preliminary plans for new developments after the date of the License?

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

Within three months after the date of the License, you must submit preliminary plans for new developments. Holiday will approve your construction plans for new development (or conversion) if they meet the requirements of the License and the Standards. You may not start construction until you obtain Holiday's approval. Construction or remodeling costs and arrangements are solely your responsibility. Holiday will supply prototype architectural plans which you must use. An architect approved by Holiday must adapt these plans for a specific site and construction type. You must commission and pay your architect directly.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Crowne Plaza's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee must submit preliminary plans for new developments within three months after the date of the License agreement. Crowne Plaza will then review these construction plans for new developments or conversions to ensure they meet the requirements outlined in the License and the brand's standards.

Construction cannot begin until Crowne Plaza grants approval of the plans. The franchisee is solely responsible for all costs and arrangements related to construction or remodeling. While Crowne Plaza provides prototype architectural plans, these must be adapted for the specific site and construction type by an architect approved by Crowne Plaza, with the franchisee bearing the architect's fees directly.

It's important to note that franchisees can apply for extensions to the construction commencement or completion deadlines, which Crowne Plaza will consider based on factors such as financing, permits, zoning, weather, and equipment delays. However, approval of these extensions is not guaranteed, and the franchisee must cover any expenses incurred by Crowne Plaza in processing the extension request. This highlights the importance of careful planning and realistic timelines when developing a new Crowne Plaza location.
