How does the Crowne Plaza franchise agreement define 'Bottle/Can Beverage'?
Crowne_Plaza Franchise · 2025 FDDAnswer from 2025 FDD Document
This definition applies without regard to the beverage's labeling or marketing.
For the avoidance of doubt, "flavor enhancers", "liquid water enhancers", brands and products of Beverage making systems (e.g., Soda Stream®) and non-alcoholic beverages sold as "shots" or "supplements" are considered Beverages.
However, this definition does not include fresh-brewed coffee, fresh-brewed tea products, hot chocolate or hot cocoa, or water.
Nothing in this definition is intended to limit or expand what a Hotel must serve under the Availability section of any of Exhibits A-1 through and including A-3.

What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Crowne Plaza FDD, a 'Bottle/Can Beverage' is defined as any beverage, including a pre-mix beverage, that is pre-packaged and ready-to-drink, and comes in bottles, cans, or other factory-sealed containers. This definition applies regardless of the beverage's labeling or marketing. The definition of 'Bottle/Can Beverage' is important because Crowne Plaza franchisees are required to offer a core set of beverages from specific bottlers, and this definition helps clarify what falls under that requirement.
For clarity, the definition includes flavor enhancers, liquid water enhancers, brands and products of beverage-making systems like Soda Stream, and non-alcoholic beverages sold as shots or supplements. However, the definition specifically excludes fresh-brewed coffee, fresh-brewed tea products, hot chocolate or hot cocoa, and water. This distinction is important for franchisees to understand when stocking and selling beverages at their Crowne Plaza hotels.
Furthermore, the FDD clarifies that nothing in this definition is intended to limit or expand what a hotel must serve under the availability section of Exhibits A-1 through A-3. This suggests that while the definition provides a general understanding, the specific requirements for beverage availability are governed by other sections of the franchise agreement. Prospective franchisees should carefully review Exhibits A-1 through A-3 to fully understand their obligations regarding beverage offerings at their Crowne Plaza location.
