What This Means (2024 FDD)
According to Crawlspace Medic's 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchisor has the sole discretion to determine whether a franchisee has satisfactorily completed the initial training program. Specifically, Item 11 outlines that Crawlspace Medic will provide initial training to the franchisee and up to two other individuals, and the franchisor alone decides if this training is completed satisfactorily.
This is a crucial point for prospective franchisees because failure to complete the pre-opening training program to Crawlspace Medic's satisfaction can result in the termination of the Franchise Agreement. This underscores the importance of engaging fully with the training program and meeting the franchisor's expectations.
The initial training program lasts approximately four weeks for the franchisee or operating principal(s) and two weeks for field technicians, held at Crawlspace Medic's headquarters in Columbia, South Carolina, or another designated location. Following this, there is one week of on-site training at the franchisee's location within 30 days after opening. The training program is based on the Operations Manual and includes hands-on training in both classroom and field settings. Evan Wilson, who has operated the original business since 2014, supervises the training program, which covers standards for operations, management, and marketing.
Crawlspace Medic also offers additional mandatory or optional training programs, including an annual conference or national business meeting. Franchisees must attend mandatory training programs for up to five days each year and an annual conference or national business meeting for up to three days each year, at a location designated by Crawlspace Medic. Failure to attend mandatory training is a default under the Franchise Agreement. The franchisor reserves the right to impose a reasonable fee for tuition and/or attendance for all additional training programs, and franchisees are responsible for their transportation, lodging, meals, and other expenses.
