What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Crave's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, any manager subsequently designated by a franchisee must complete the initial training program to Crave's satisfaction. This requirement applies even if it necessitates sending the manager to Crave's headquarters for training, and all associated expenses are the responsibility of the franchisee. Crave retains the right to charge a reasonable fee for initial training provided to replacement or successor employees if the franchisee has not been approved to conduct the training themselves.

This initial training program includes classroom instruction and practical training in an operating franchised business. The franchisee is responsible for all expenses incurred by the manager during training, including travel, lodging, meals, and applicable wages. Additionally, Crave requires that the franchisee, their General Manager, managers, and any other designated employees maintain industry certifications from approved food safety and handling programs like ServSafe, as well as approved alcohol service training programs like TIPS. These certifications, including any necessary recertification, are also at the franchisee's sole expense.

Crave also reserves the right to conduct additional or refresher training programs, seminars, and related activities for the franchisee, their managers, or other personnel. While Crave does not anticipate charging a fee for refresher training, the franchisee is responsible for covering all expenses incurred by trainees, such as travel, lodging, meals, and wages. Furthermore, Crave may designate attendance at franchisee meetings as mandatory for the franchisee, their General Manager, and/or other franchised business personnel, with all associated expenses borne by the franchisee.

In practical terms, this means a Crave franchisee must budget not only for the initial training of themselves and their general manager but also for the ongoing training and certification of any subsequent managers. This includes the direct costs of training programs, travel, accommodation, and wages for the manager during the training period. The franchisee should inquire about the typical duration and location of the initial training program, the fees associated with replacement manager training, and the specific requirements for industry certifications to accurately estimate these ongoing training expenses.
