What health and safety regulations affecting customers must a Crave restaurant comply with?

Crave Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

The restaurant industry is heavily regulated. A wide variety of Federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations have been enacted that may impact the operation of your Restaurant, and may include those which: (a) establish general standards, zoning, permitting restrictions and requirements and other specifications and requirements for the location, construction, design, maintenance and operation of the Restaurant's premises; (b) set standards pertaining to employee health and safety; (c) regulate matters affecting the health, safety and welfare of your customers, such as general health and sanitation requirements for restaurants and laws and regulations relating to access by persons with disabilities; employee practices concerning the storage, handling, cooking and preparation of food; restrictions on smoking; availability of and requirements for public accommodations and requirements for fire safety and general emergency preparedness; (d) regulate food and liquor service operations including establishing requirements for food identification and labeling; and (e) regulate advertisements. State and local agencies inspect restaurants to ensure that they comply with these laws and regulations. You should investigate whether there are regulations and requirements that may apply in the geographic area in which you are interested in locating your Restaurant and you should consider both their effect and costs of compliance. Additionally, each of your managers and other employees we designate must be ServSafe (or similar) certified. Certain managers and other employees we designate (including cashiers) must also complete alcohol awareness or TIPS training.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Crave's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Crave restaurants are subject to a variety of federal, state, and local laws and regulations designed to protect customer health and safety. These regulations cover a broad spectrum of areas, including general health and sanitation requirements, accessibility for individuals with disabilities, employee practices related to food storage, handling, cooking, and preparation, restrictions on smoking, the availability of public accommodations, and fire safety and general emergency preparedness.

Compliance with these regulations is not optional. State and local agencies conduct inspections of Crave restaurants to ensure adherence to these laws. Franchisees must proactively investigate the specific regulations applicable to their restaurant's geographic area to understand the potential impact and costs of compliance. This includes understanding zoning laws, permitting restrictions, and any other specifications that may affect the restaurant's location, construction, design, maintenance, and operation.

Furthermore, Crave emphasizes the importance of food safety and responsible alcohol service. The FDD states that managers and other designated employees must obtain ServSafe (or similar) certification, demonstrating their knowledge of food safety practices. Additionally, certain managers and employees, including cashiers, are required to complete alcohol awareness or TIPS training, ensuring they are equipped to handle alcohol service responsibly and in compliance with local regulations. These training requirements underscore Crave's commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant environment for both customers and employees.
