What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Cordova's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must ensure that all advertising and promotion for their franchised business is completely factual and conforms to the highest standards of ethical advertising. This advertising must also align with Cordova's standards and specifications. Cordova retains the unilateral right to reject any advertising related to the franchised business, the franchisor, the Cordova system, or the use of Cordova's licensed marks.

This requirement means that a Cordova franchisee needs to be very careful about the claims they make in their advertising. They can only advertise factual information and must adhere to high ethical standards, which may be further defined by Cordova. The franchisee does not have complete control over their advertising, as Cordova has the right to reject any advertising materials. This ensures brand consistency and protects the reputation of the Cordova brand.

Many franchise systems have similar requirements to ensure brand consistency and protect the brand's reputation. Franchisees are often required to submit advertising materials for approval before they are used. This allows the franchisor to ensure that the advertising is accurate, ethical, and consistent with the brand's image. Cordova's approach is fairly standard in the franchise industry, giving them control over advertising content while placing the initial responsibility for ethical and factual accuracy on the franchisee.

Prospective Cordova franchisees should carefully review Cordova's advertising standards and specifications to fully understand what is expected of them. They should also be prepared to submit all advertising materials for approval before use. Understanding these requirements is crucial for maintaining a good relationship with Cordova and ensuring compliance with the franchise agreement.
