What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Cordova's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, a franchisee must ensure that all marketing materials comply with Cordova's standards and specifications and receive approval from Cordova before using them. This includes marketing through approved digital media and social media platforms, which must also adhere to Cordova's digital media and social media policies. Franchisees are required to purchase all branded marketing materials from Cordova or its designated exclusive supplier. Cordova retains the right to mandate that franchisees exclusively use, at their own cost, Cordova's designated supplier for social and digital media marketing services, as well as Cordova's social media platforms, vendors, and marketing channels.
This requirement ensures brand consistency and quality control across all Cordova franchises. By mandating approval, Cordova maintains oversight of how its brand is represented in the market. This also allows Cordova to ensure that marketing efforts align with the company's overall strategy and comply with any legal or regulatory requirements.
For a prospective franchisee, this means that they will not have complete autonomy over their marketing efforts. They must factor in the time and potential costs associated with obtaining approval for marketing materials. Additionally, the requirement to purchase branded materials from approved suppliers could impact marketing expenses and potentially limit the franchisee's choice of vendors. It is important for prospective franchisees to understand Cordova's marketing standards and policies, as well as the costs associated with using approved suppliers, to effectively plan their marketing strategies and budgets.
Cordova's control over marketing materials is a fairly standard practice in franchising. Franchisors typically implement such controls to protect their brand and ensure a consistent customer experience across all locations. However, the extent of control and the associated costs can vary significantly between franchise systems. Therefore, prospective franchisees should carefully evaluate these factors when considering a franchise opportunity.
