What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Cordova's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to guarantee their services to clients. If a client is not satisfied with the services or products provided by the Cordova franchised business, Cordova may choose to reimburse the client directly. In such cases, the franchisee is then obligated to reimburse Cordova for the amount that was refunded to the client.
This policy means that Cordova franchisees bear the financial risk of customer dissatisfaction. They must be prepared to potentially refund fees to clients if Cordova deems it necessary. This could impact the franchisee's revenue and profitability, as they are responsible for covering the costs of these refunds. It is also important to note that franchisees must participate in any warranty insurance programs that Cordova designates, which may involve additional costs and requirements.
This type of customer service and refund policy is not uncommon in franchising, particularly in service-oriented businesses. Franchisors often implement such policies to maintain brand reputation and ensure consistent customer experiences across all locations. However, the specific terms and conditions can vary significantly between franchise systems. Therefore, prospective Cordova franchisees should carefully evaluate the potential financial implications of this policy and factor it into their business planning.
In addition to the direct reimbursement, the FDD states that a fee will be based on the costs incurred by Cordova, including refunds and/or credits that Cordova may undertake on behalf of a client that was not satisfied with the services or products provided by the Franchised Business. This fee is due on demand if Cordova elects to resolve a complaint or refund request by a client.
