What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Cordova's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are not granted any options, rights of first refusal, or similar rights to acquire additional franchises. This means that a franchisee cannot be guaranteed the opportunity to expand their business by acquiring additional Cordova franchises in the future.
While franchisees do not have a guaranteed option to acquire additional franchises, they may add additional territories subject to availability, Cordova's approval, and payment of additional initial franchise fees. Each additional territory will consist of a geographic area that includes a population of approximately 500,000 people. If a franchisee adds additional territories, their minimum quarterly royalty fee requirement and local marketing expenditure will increase.
This lack of a guaranteed option is fairly common in franchising. Franchisors often retain the flexibility to decide who they want to award new franchises to, based on factors like performance, market conditions, and strategic goals. A prospective Cordova franchisee should inquire about the process and criteria Cordova uses when awarding additional franchises or territories to existing franchisees to understand their potential for expansion.
