What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to City Publications's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial term of the franchise agreement is 5 years. A franchisee has the option to renew the franchise agreement for 4 additional terms, each lasting 5 years. Therefore, the total potential length of a City Publications franchise, including renewals, is 25 years.
To be eligible for renewal, a City Publications franchisee must meet several requirements. These include substantially complying with the existing Franchise Agreement, maintaining a suitable location for the business, making necessary capital expenditures to keep up with system modifications, and fulfilling all financial obligations to City Publications and its affiliates. The franchisee must also not be in default of any agreements, provide timely notice of intent to renew, pay a renewal fee of $1,000, sign the current Franchise Agreement, meet current qualifications and training requirements, and execute a general release.
It is important to note that the new Franchise Agreement signed upon renewal may contain materially different terms and conditions compared to the original agreement. However, the boundaries of the franchisee's territory will remain the same. The royalties and other fees charged upon renewal will not be greater than those imposed on similarly situated renewing franchisees. This provides some assurance that City Publications will not unfairly increase fees for renewing franchisees.
