What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to City Publications' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the franchisee's right to use the "Marks" (defined as the trademark "CITY PUBLICATIONS" and other trade names, trademarks, service marks, designs, graphics, logos and other commercial symbols) is granted by the franchisor in Section 3.A, titled "Grant."
Specifically, in consideration of the royalties paid to City Publications by the franchisee throughout the term of the agreement, City Publications grants the franchisee the right, license, and privilege to operate one City Publications Business under the System and Marks. This license is subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the franchise agreement.
The franchisee is permitted to operate or administer the Franchised Business from any location, subject to zoning and local ordinances. The franchisee does not need City Publications' approval for the site or to obtain a storefront or commercial space. However, if the franchisee establishes a commercial business location, any lease for that location must include a provision that allows City Publications, or its nominee, to assume the lease if the franchisee defaults.
