What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to City Publications' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the definition of "Confidential Information" explicitly includes business operating systems. This means that City Publications considers its business operating systems to be proprietary and confidential.

As a City Publications franchisee, you are obligated to protect this information and keep it secret. The definition extends to any information or matter that is competitively sensitive and not generally known to the public, relating to the City Publications system. This includes, but is not limited to, know-how, methods, techniques, formats, specifications, procedures, systems, policies and standards, record keeping and reporting methods, accounting systems, sales and marketing methods and training techniques.

The broad scope of this definition means that franchisees must exercise caution in how they handle and share information related to their City Publications business. This obligation likely extends beyond the term of the franchise agreement, meaning that even after a franchisee leaves the City Publications system, they must continue to protect this confidential information. Failure to do so could result in legal action from City Publications.
