What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to City Publications' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees must use City Publications' mailing list for distributing card decks and will incur a "Mailing List Rental Fee" for each use. This fee is separate from the initial franchise fee. The franchisee pays this fee to City Publications for using their mailing list for each card deck mailing. The amount and payment terms for this fee are specified in the Manual. Franchisees may also incur additional charges for any enhancements they request to the mailing list. The franchisor does not guarantee the exact demographics of a particular Mailing List but will use its best efforts to ensure Franchisee's Mailing List includes the desired demographic market.
This means that while the initial franchise fee grants access to the City Publications system, franchisees must budget for ongoing mailing list rental fees. These fees are directly tied to the volume of card decks they distribute, impacting their operating costs. The franchisee is obligated to use City Publication's mailing list and pay the associated rental fee for each mailing, giving City Publications control over this aspect of the business.
Prospective franchisees should carefully review the Manual to understand the specific costs and terms associated with the mailing list rental fee. They should also consider how these fees will affect their profitability and business strategy. Understanding the costs associated with the mailing list is crucial for projecting expenses and determining the potential return on investment for a City Publications franchise.
