Has the City Publications affiliate or predecessor previously offered franchises in any line of business?

City_Publications Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

No affiliate or predecessor has previously offered franchises in this or any other line of business. Our Affiliate, or another entity with similar ownership, may in the future offer a license for an advertising business that would feature coupon booklets or some other coupon format, but not the loose card decks offered through this Disclosure Document, and not using any of the proprietary marks licensed in your Franchise Agreement. Those businesses might operate within the area we license to you under your Franchise Agreement.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to City Publications' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, neither its affiliate nor its predecessor has previously offered franchises in any line of business. However, City Publications' predecessor, Pride of the City, Inc., did offer licenses for businesses similar to the franchised businesses from March 2002 until April 2004 under "The Pride of the City" trademark, though none of those licensees are still operating. City Publications itself has been offering franchises since 2002 and has not offered franchises in any other line of business.

City Publications' affiliate, City Publications Service, Inc., provides marketing and design services, as well as mailing list services, to franchisees. The FDD indicates that the affiliate, or another entity with similar ownership, may offer a license for an advertising business featuring coupon booklets or other coupon formats in the future. However, this future business would not involve the loose card decks currently offered by City Publications and would not use any of the proprietary marks licensed in the Franchise Agreement.

For a prospective franchisee, this means that while City Publications and its direct entities have not engaged in other franchise models, there is a history of licensing a similar business model through its predecessor. Additionally, the potential for the affiliate to offer a related advertising business in the future could create competition within the franchisee's licensed area. It is important for potential franchisees to understand the nature of the services provided by City Publications Service, Inc., and to consider the potential impact of a future, related advertising business offered by the affiliate on their franchise operations.
