What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Circle K's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, franchisees are required to obtain an integrated electronic point of sale scanning cash register/motor fuel dispenser controller system, referred to as the "EPOS System," for store management. This system handles management, accounting, and record-keeping functions using specific computer hardware and software designated by Circle K, including any subsequent updates. Franchisees might also need to acquire hardware, software, and communication lines for payment, activation, or acceptance terminals related to proprietary gift cards, cash cards, telecom, or other electronic card-based programs.
Currently, Circle K mandates the use of Verifone or Radiant for the EPOS System. The estimated cost for the EPOS System ranges from $38,000 to $45,000. In addition to the EPOS system, Circle K may require franchisees to install a back-office computer system, including hardware and software (currently SSCS), or other communication or data storage systems. These computer systems currently cost approximately $13,000 to $15,000.
Neither Circle K, nor any affiliate or third party, is obligated to provide ongoing maintenance, repairs, upgrades or updates for the EPOS System or Computer Systems. The current annual cost of a service contract for the EPOS System is $2,400 to $3,600 and $1,800 to $3,000 for the Computer Systems. Franchisees must enter into a Software Agreement with Circle K or its affiliates and may be required to pay a monthly maintenance and support fee for the use and upgrades of TMC Software, although currently there is no fee being charged. Franchisees are responsible for compliance with all applicable laws related to the EPOS System or other technology used in their store's operation, including data protection, security laws, and PCI compliance.
