What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Circle K's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial franchise fee ranges from $10,000 to $25,000. The exact amount depends on the number of stores the franchisee commits to opening. If a franchisee agrees to open only one Circle K store, the initial franchise fee is $25,000. However, if the franchisee commits to opening six or more stores, the initial franchise fee is reduced to $10,000 per store. This tiered fee structure incentivizes franchisees to expand the Circle K brand by opening multiple locations.
This initial franchise fee is paid as a lump sum upon signing the Convenience Store Franchise Agreement. The FDD states that Circle K does not finance the initial franchise fee. Item 5 of the FDD provides additional information regarding how the initial franchise fee is determined and the conditions under which the fee is partially refundable.
Notably, if an existing franchisee is renewing their Convenience Store Franchise Agreement, they will not be charged the initial franchise fee. Instead, they will pay a renewal fee, which, as of the date of the 2025 Disclosure Document, is $5,000. Circle K retains the right to increase the renewal fee in the future, up to the then-current initial franchise fee. This provides an advantage to existing franchisees who wish to continue operating their Circle K stores under a renewed agreement.
