What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Circle K's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, most fees are nonrefundable. The document states that unless explicitly mentioned otherwise, all fees payable to Circle K or its affiliates are nonrefundable. This blanket statement covers a range of fees that a franchisee might encounter.
However, there are specific instances where certain fees are explicitly labeled as non-refundable. For example, interest on late payments and promotional fees are explicitly stated as non-refundable. Similarly, the transfer fee, which can be as high as the then-current Initial Franchise Fee (e.g., $25,000 as of the document's date), is also non-refundable under any circumstances.
Given this information, a prospective Circle K franchisee should carefully review all potential fees outlined in the Franchise Disclosure Document and the franchise agreement to understand which fees are nonrefundable. This understanding is crucial for financial planning and risk assessment, as these nonrefundable fees represent costs that cannot be recovered, even if the franchisee's circumstances change or the franchise agreement is terminated.
