What This Means (2025 FDD)
Based on the 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, if a prospective Circle K franchisee fails to construct and furnish the store in accordance with the plans and specifications approved by the franchisor, it may result in the termination of the Franchise Agreement. The FDD emphasizes the importance of adhering to Circle K's standards for the store's building, premises, and equipment.
Circle K requires franchisees to have any proposed site for the Franchised Location approved, ensuring it meets the franchisor's current site selection criteria. The store building must conform to approved building plans, specifications, exterior and interior decorating designs, required equipment, and color schemes. Franchisees are provided with a typical Circle K Store floor plan layout and standard construction and equipment specifications to guide them.
Prior to the store's opening, franchisees must take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with the current layout and equipment specifications. For conversion stores, Circle K may require the store to either close or remain open during the conversion process. Furthermore, any general contractor or architect making improvements to the Franchised Location must be pre-approved by Circle K. Architectural schedules must be provided to Circle K before any renovations are made to the store, and all plans and specifications require Circle K's approval before construction begins. While Circle K will consult with franchisees regarding the store's design and layout upon request, all architectural, engineering, construction, and design services are the franchisee's sole responsibility and cost.
