2.1 Initial Term. What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to the 2025 Cinnabon Franchise Disclosure Document, the initial term of the franchise agreement begins on the Effective Date and ends 20 years from the date the franchised business opens, referred to as the "Opening Date." However, the agreement may be terminated sooner under other sections of the agreement.
This means that a Cinnabon franchisee's 20-year term doesn't start when they sign the agreement but rather when their store actually begins serving customers. This is a common practice in franchising, as it aligns the term with the operational lifespan of the business.
It's important for prospective franchisees to understand that the "Effective Date" and the "Opening Date" are distinct and that the 20-year term is tied to the latter. Franchisees should clarify with Cinnabon what constitutes the "Effective Date" to fully understand the timeline of their franchise agreement.
