What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Checkers' 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, the transfer fee is due upon transferring the franchise. The amount of the transfer fee depends on whether you are transferring a single restaurant or multiple restaurants. For a single restaurant, the transfer fee is $20,000, but it is reduced to $10,000 if the transferee is an existing Checkers franchisee.
For the transfer of multiple Checkers restaurants, the fee is $20,000 (or $10,000 if the transferee is an existing franchisee) for the first restaurant, plus an additional $5,000 for each subsequent restaurant included in the transaction.
This means that if a franchisee decides to sell their Checkers restaurant, they will need to pay the transfer fee at the time of the sale. Existing franchisees who expand by acquiring another unit from a different franchisee receive a discounted transfer fee. The fees are payable to Checkers and are nonrefundable as noted in Item 6.
