What This Means (2025 FDD)
According to Chatime's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, there are generally no restrictions on who a franchisee may hire as an on-site supervisor. However, all on-site supervisors must complete Chatime's initial training program and be certified as the manager of the location by Chatime.
The operating manager is required to devote their full time, attention, and effort to the franchised business, providing direct, day-to-day supervision. The operating manager must work at least 38 hours per week at the Chatime store. The operating manager cannot have other business responsibilities that conflict with the operational requirements or best interests of the franchised business. The managing owner is responsible for overseeing and supervising the operation of the franchised business, but is not required to devote full time to the business unless they are also the operating manager. The managing owner and the operating manager can be the same person.
If a Chatime store is not being managed by an operating manager who has completed the initial training program, Chatime is authorized to appoint a manager to maintain operations on the franchisee's behalf. This does not relieve the franchisee of their obligations under the franchise agreement. Chatime is not liable for any debts, losses, costs, or expenses incurred during the period they manage the franchised business and has the right to charge a reasonable service fee for such management services, which they may cease at any time. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that the appointed manager completes the training to avoid potential intervention from Chatime.
