Does Chatime have an obligation to approve architects and other design and construction professionals for franchisees?

According to Chatime's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, Chatime has the right, but not the obligation, to approve architects and other design and construction professionals. This is to help ensure consistency, uniformity, and quality within the Chatime system and maintain the brand's image.

For a prospective franchisee, this means that while Chatime may offer approved professionals, you might be able to choose your own, subject to Chatime's approval. However, Chatime maintains control over the final design and construction of the outlet.

Chatime must approve or disapprove applications for designing the interior and exterior of the outlet. Franchisees are also required to use Chatime's approved suppliers for services such as real estate and construction management, architectural, engineering, and design services, construction permit acquisition, and site visits. This ensures that all outlets adhere to Chatime's System Standards and legal requirements. Franchisees need written approval from Chatime for any material revision or adaptation of previously approved plans, and Chatime has 10 business days to approve or disapprove any changes to the Approved Plans.
