What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Chatime's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, if Chatime revokes its approval of a franchisee's website, it will do so in writing. Following this revocation, the franchisee must immediately take all steps and execute all documents reasonably necessary to either assign or transfer any domain name license to Chatime or its nominee. If assigning or transferring the domain name is not possible, the franchisee must cancel any domain name used in connection with the franchised business, provided Chatime requires it.

This requirement ensures that Chatime maintains control over its brand and online presence. By retaining the right to revoke website approval and demand the transfer or cancellation of domain names, Chatime can ensure brand consistency and prevent franchisees from operating websites that do not meet its standards or that could potentially harm the brand's reputation.

For a prospective Chatime franchisee, this means understanding that any investment in a website for their franchise is subject to Chatime's approval and can be revoked at any time. It is crucial to maintain open communication with Chatime regarding website content and updates to minimize the risk of revocation. Additionally, franchisees should factor in the potential cost and effort of transferring or canceling a domain name if Chatime revokes its approval.
