Under what condition will Carvel send representatives for on-site training at the Franchised Business?

Carvel Franchise · 2025 FDD

Answer from 2025 FDD Document

If this is your first or second Franchised Business (including Franchised Businesses owned by your affiliates and including any Carvel® , Cinnabon® , or Cinnabon Swirl™ Franchised Businesses), we will send one or more of our representatives to the Franchised Business, at our expense, for a minimum of two days of On-Site Training concurrent with beginning operations.

Except as may be specified on Schedule A, we are not required to provide any on-site training or consultation at the site of your Franchised Business (the "On-Site Training").

You may request that we provide you with On-Site Training.

We may agree to provide On-Site Training but will not be obligated to do so.

We may also, in our sole discretion, require that you obtain On-Site Training at any time, including in the days or weeks before and/or after your Opening Date and/or if you fail to comply with the System and Standards.

We may charge you a reasonable fee for On-Site Training, which is currently $500 per trainer per day and may be increased in any calendar year by no more than the Allowed Adjustment, for each of our trainers and may require you to reimburse us for their travel and living expenses (including airfare, car expenses, lodging, meals, etc.) during such On-Site Training.

What This Means (2025 FDD)

According to Carvel's 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document, if you are opening your first or second Carvel franchise (including franchises owned by affiliates and including Carvel, Cinnabon, or Cinnabon Swirl franchises), Carvel will send one or more representatives to the franchise location for a minimum of two days of on-site training. This on-site training will occur concurrently with the beginning of operations, and Carvel will cover the expenses for this training.

However, Carvel is generally not required to provide any on-site training or consultation at the franchise location, unless specified on Schedule A. You can request on-site training, but Carvel is not obligated to grant the request. Carvel retains the right to require you to obtain on-site training at any time, including before or after your opening date, or if you fail to comply with the Carvel system and standards.

If Carvel does provide on-site training beyond the initial two days for first-time franchisees, they may charge a fee. The current fee is $500 per trainer per day, and this fee can be increased annually, subject to an allowed adjustment. Additionally, you may be required to reimburse Carvel for the trainers' travel and living expenses, including airfare, car expenses, lodging, and meals, during the on-site training period. This fee structure is fairly standard in the franchise industry, as franchisors often charge for additional support and training beyond the initial setup.
